Calculate pip values, spread costs, and profit/loss instantly. Essential tools for every forex trader.
Key concepts every forex trader needs to know before opening a position.
A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest standard price move in forex. For most pairs it is 0.0001 (the 4th decimal place). For JPY pairs it is 0.01 (the 2nd decimal place).
Pip value is the monetary worth of one pip movement. For a standard lot of EUR/USD, 1 pip = $10. Knowing your pip value helps you calculate risk before every trade.
The spread is the difference between the bid and ask price, measured in pips. It is the broker's main cost. A 1-pip spread on 1 standard lot of EUR/USD costs you $10.
Standard lot = 100,000 units. Mini lot = 10,000 units. Micro lot = 1,000 units. Nano lot = 100 units. Smaller lots let beginners manage risk more precisely.
Select your currency pair, choose your lot size, enter the spread or pip movement, and click Calculate. Use results to set stop-loss and take-profit levels accordingly.
Professional traders risk only 1–2% of their account per trade. Use pip value to determine exact position sizing. Never risk more than you can afford to lose.

Pip value = (pip size / exchange rate) × lot size × contract size. For USD account trading EUR/USD: (0.0001 / 1) × 100,000 = $10 per standard lot.
JPY pairs have only 2 decimal places, so 1 pip = 0.01. The pip value also fluctuates with the USD/JPY rate, typically around $9.10 at 110 rate.
Yes. Every time you open a trade, you automatically start at a loss equal to the spread cost. This is why tight spreads are important for active traders.
Round-trip cost accounts for both opening (entry) and closing (exit) a position. Since you pay the spread at entry only, round-trip in most brokers = 2× the entry spread cost.
For a buy trade: (exit price − entry price) / pip size = pips gained. For EUR/USD: if you buy at 1.1000 and exit at 1.1050, you gained 50 pips.
Major pairs like EUR/USD and USD/JPY typically have the tightest spreads (0.6–1.5 pips with ECN brokers). Exotic pairs and commodities usually have wider spreads of 5–20+ pips.
